During his State of the Union Address, President Obama discussed the importance of promoting advanced manufacturing. He mentioned 3-D modeling and printing technologies specifically, citing his goal to build a network of 15 advanced manufacturing hubs as part of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.

Maryland lawmakers got to see this technology in action last week thanks to our friends at the Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland (RMI). RMI held a day long event in the Miller Senate Office Building to promote a more positive image of manufacturing and introduce legislators to rapid technologies like 3D imaging, design and printing.
“These technologies are vital to manufacturing competitiveness and they represent a positive image of our industry,” RMI President Mike Galiazzo, Ph.D. said.
Together with the RMI, Direct Dimensions and faculty and students from the Object Lab at Towson University educated lawmakers on scanning, 3d modeling and 3d printing technologies, and how and why these technologies are central to 21st century making and manufacturing.
