A letter from Mike Galiazzo, RMI President

HoganI’m following up on my last update to you regarding proposed manufacturing legislation (SB386-Adminsitration & SB181-Senator Manno) that would have implications for your business. I testified that the bills were “not ready for prime time” and needed amendments to create an equal playing field for existing companies statewide. RMI worked with the Governor’s staff and Senator Manno to address key concerns. Amendments to both bills were added to incentivize both new and existing companies, but legislators decided to not pass the bills out of committee.

MannoRMI is pleased that SB386 and SB181 were tabled for this session. While both the Governor and Senator Roger Manno had good intentions, there were provisions in both bills that may have adversely impacted local manufacturers. RMI’s suggestion was to remove these elements or modify them to be aligned with the needs of both existing and new manufacturers.

We applaud Governor Hogan, Senator Roger Manno and the many sponsors of these bills for their leadership in putting forth legislation to support manufacturing in the State of Maryland and look forward to collaborating with them later this year so that we have good legislation to support all manufacturers ready for the 2017 session.
