On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, RMI of Maryland and Maryland MEP, in partnership with the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, presented “Tech Talks: Emerging Technologies Transforming the World of Work.” Hosted at the new Baltimore event venue, M&T Bank Exchange at the France Merrick Performing Arts Center, the event was attended by 160 Baltimore County Public School Career & Technical Education students, educators and navigators, as well as more than 150 individuals from Maryland’s manufacturing community.
The goals of the event were to showcase technologies impacting businesses today and into the future and to inspire businesses to embrace these technologies and students to pursue education and training around these advanced technologies to prepare them for their future careers.
The event launched with brief technology-specific video and slide presentations:
- AI: Todd Marks, Founder & CEO, Mindgrub
- 3D Scanning & Printing: Michael Raphael, President, Direct Dimensions
- Industrial Metaverse: Alanah Nichole Davis, Lead Baltimore Reporter, Technical.ly Baltimore
- Mechatronics & Robotics: Dr. Oscar Barton Jr., PE, Dean, Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering, Morgan State University
The presentations were followed by 30 minutes of Q&A moderated by RMI President Dr. Mike Galiazzo during which students and business professional attendees posed questions of the speakers.
The program concluded with Mike Galiazzo presenting a check for $2,500 to Sharon Schreiber, Executive Director for the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, to help further her organization’s efforts.
