Maryland manufacturers enjoy access to a Manufacturing 4.0 program (M4.0) at the Maryland Department of Commerce today because of Delegate Lily Qi’s leadership and tenacity. The M4.0 program provides matching funds to Maryland manufacturers whose companies are committed to Industry 4.0 strategies, including upgrading equipment and worker training. The stage for this legislation was set by a legislative workgroup, Transforming Manufacturing in A Digital Economy – Make it in Maryland, led by Delegate Qi and workgroup members of RMI and MEP. The workgroup members sent several vital recommendations to the Governor, including one to create a Manufacturing 4.0 program. About Commerce Transforming Manufacturing in a Digital Economy Workgroup (Make it in Maryland)  Delegate Qi then authored a bill that became law to create a Manufacturing 4.0 program with a request for 10 million a year for five years.

“Delegate Lily Qi and the legislative workgroup put Maryland manufacturing on a trajectory to the future based on the knowledge that advanced technologies will allow manufacturers to be more globally competitive. Technology and talent are two key factors driving Maryland’s economy forward in a world of rapid transformation. Lily is a 2024 STAR of great significance because of her dedication, drive and understanding that our State prospers with a strong manufacturing sector.” - Dr. Michael Galiazzo, RMI President.
