Sparrows Point, MD–11/22/02–Beth Steel, where 35,000 people once made steel, has less than 3,000 workers left. The company, already having declared bankruptcy, will probably be sold or shut down soon. Workers and former workers might have their health insurance dropped or even lose their pensions.
Edie Papadakis (cq), a bit shy of 30-year, may not get her pension. This photograph was taken at 56 crane mechanics shop, but she generally works at 68 hot strip mill. Photo by Chiaki Kawajiri/staff
