Anthony Robinson is one of the country’s leading advocates for Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). As a mentee of Maryland’s late Congressman Parren J. Mitchell, Anthony brings a laser-sharp focus on economic development to his advocacy for diversity and inclusion. He integrates those same threads in his business development and advocacy work as a Business Consultant for the Mid-Atlantic Region Advanced Manufacturing Center and formerly the Virginia Business Center, which serves manufacturers and other entrepreneurs in Maryland’s suburban counties who are from socially and economically disadvantaged populations. His work for both centers, powered by the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency, assists local, national and international business opportunity.
Anthony served as president of the Minority Business Enterprise Education and Legal Defense Fund for more than 25 years. His tenure there supported the passage and ground-breaking MBE legislation from P.L. 95-507, P. L. 99-661 and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program.
His engagements on behalf of socially and economically disadvantaged populations have been far-reaching, including litigation, testimony on legislation, and legal support for government agencies, entrepreneurs, as well as individuals. Work with Maryland manufacturing industry stakeholders for the past 10 years, he says that he is particularly impressed by the inherently impactful nature of the sector’s multiplier effect on opportunity for other businesses as well as for communities.
