Sparks, MD, February 27– Representatives from BGE’s Smart Savers Program came to meet a group of Maryland manufacturers at RMI’s Green Team energy conservation monthly meeting held at KCI Technologies Gold LEED building headquarters in Sparks, Maryland on Wednesday.
RMI’s Green Team program, funded by Baltimore County under a U.S. DOE energy conservation grant, is helping a group of six manufacturers reduce emissions, save money on energy costs, optimize manufacturing efficiencies and build self-directed green teams at each facility to ensure a sustainable commitment to energy conservation.

The six Baltimore County manufacturers include GM, MarquipWardUnited, Green Bay Packaging, Lion Brothers, Acadia Windows & Doors and Kirk-Habicht Company. RMI brings this group together monthly for a sharing of best practices so they can learn from each other’s green journey and also helps connect them with resources like BGE so that they can save on energy costs while increasing their productivity.
Several of the manufacturers provided an overview of some of the energy upgrade opportunities they were considering and then Ronnie McTier and O’Neil Morgan from the BGE Smart Savers Program spoke to the group and highlighted the programs and resources that are available to further incentivize them to move forward.
“Our RMI energy experts have helped the firms in our program identify numerous opportunities for energy improvements and the BGE rebates and incentives will definitely be advantageous in helping to incentivize the companies to purchase new equipment and make recommended fixes,” said Dr. Michael Galiazzo, President of RMI. According to the BGE representatives, the BGE program has already incentivized companies over $28 million dollars for energy reduction measures since its inception in 2009. The BGE team is anxious to help. “We’ve given out as much as $400,000 to individual companies that have qualified for this program,” said Ronnie McTier, PMP, Energy Efficiency Technical Specialist.
